RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: 02/19/2019 <br />AGENDA REPORT AGENDA HEADING: Regular Business <br /> <br />AGENDA DESCRIPTION: <br /> <br />Consideration and possible action to consider participating in the multi-jurisdictional <br />notification system South Bay pilot program <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> <br />(1) Authorize the City Manager or Finance Director to appropriate additional funding <br />for the pilot program. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT: $20,181.19 for the first year, which includes software, consulting, <br />monthly contact data, and one-time implementation and setup costs. Years 2 and 3 of <br />the pilot program would be $19,063.19 for software, consulting services, and monthly <br />contact data. Pricing is based upon full Area G participation. Service Agreement (page C-1) <br /> <br /> <br />BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: <br /> <br />In response to the 2017 wildfires, Senate Bill 833 (SB 833) and Senate Bill 821 (SB <br />821) were signed into law to further address the safety of local communities and the use <br />of emergency notification systems. SB 833 requires cities to develop emergency alert <br />systems by July 1, 2019. SB 821 authorizes cities to access the contact information of <br />resident accountholders through the records of a public utility or other agency with a <br />procedure in place for residents to opt-out. <br /> <br />1
