RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL <br />AGENDA REPORT <br />AGENDA DESCRIPTION: <br />MEETING DATE: 05/16/2017 <br />AGENDA HEADING: Consent Calendar <br />Consideration and possible action to award a Construction Contract for the Phase 1 <br />Coastal Bluff -Top Fence Replacement Project at Lower Point Vincente. <br />RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION: <br />1) Approve the plans and specifications for the removal and construction of <br />approximately 1600 linear feet of bluff -top fencing at Lower Point Vincente; <br />2) Award a Construction Contract to Harris Steel Fence Co., Inc. in the amount of <br />$104,562, for Phase 1 of the Coastal Bluff -Top Fencing Project, at Lower Point <br />Vicente; <br />3) Authorize the Interim Director of Public Works to approve an expenditure of a <br />construction contingency, if necessary, not to exceed 10% of the contract amount <br />or $10,456 for change orders and other unforeseen construction work that may <br />be required to complete the project for a total authorization of $115,018; and, <br />4) Authorize the Mayor and City Clerk to execute a Construction Agreement with <br />Harris Steel Fence Co., Inc. <br />FISCAL IMPACT: Funds budgeted in the FY16-17 Infrastructure Improvements — <br />Parks, Trails and Open Space Improvements Coastal Bluff -Top Fence Replacement <br />program will be utilized for this project. <br />Amount Budgeted: <br />Additional Appropriation: <br />Account Number(s): <br />$200,000 <br />None <br />330 -400 -8033 -8802 - <br />ORIGINATED BY: Sean Larvenz, Maintenance Superintendent <br />REVIEWED BY: Terry Rodrigue, PE, Interim Director of Public Works <br />APPROVED BY: Doug Willmore, City Manager /`/7:/ <br />ATTACHED SUPPORTING DOCUMENTS: <br />A. Fence Type and Detail (page B-1) <br />BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: <br />The existing wood and steel fencing along the coastal bluff -top at Lower Point Vicente <br />was constructed in 2006. Over the years, the existing bluff -top fence has deteriorated <br />and rusted due to weathering and is now in need of replacement. Wood and steel are <br />not ideal fence materials in a marine environment as they are susceptible to wood rot, <br />1 <br />
