FISCAL IMPACT: None Amount Budgeted: N/A Additional Appropriation: N/A Account Number(s): N/A ORIGINATED BY: Nathan Zweizig, Acting Deputy City Clerk REVIEWED BY: Teresa Takaoka, City Clerk APPROVED BY: Ara Mihranian, AICP, City Manager BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: Pursuant to Section 2.20.060 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code, the City Council shall appoint a chairperson to the Planning Commission and a chairperson to each advisory board on an annual basis per City Council Policy No. 6. Therefore, in May 2025, Staff reached out to the current Commissioners and Committee Members to notify them of the opportunity to express interest in serving as chairpersons of their respective boards in Fiscal Year 2025-26. The following members have expressed interest in serving as Chairperson: Planning Commission Commissioner Eric Nulman Civic Center Advisory Committee Committee Member Greg O’Brien Emergency Preparedness Committee Committee Member James Sprinkel Finance Advisory Committee Committee Member John MacAllister Infrastructure Management Advisory Committee Committee Member Peter Shaw Traffic Safety Committee Committee Member Mark Crossman With only one member from each Commission or Committee showing interest in the position of Chairperson at this time, Staff requests that appointments for those boards be affirmed as presented. The appointed Chairpersons will serve from July 1, 2025 until June 30, 2026 (unless otherwise decided by the City Council), which will align the appointments with the recently amended Council Policy No. 6. ALTERNATIVE In addition to the Staff recommendation, the following alternative action is available for the City Council’s consideration: 1. If the City Council prefers to interview those sole applicants interested in serving as the Chair to their respective boards before deciding upon their appointments, continue this agenda item and direct Staff to arrange interviews of each of the applicants with the full Council, at a future date to be determined.
