Description of Construction Change Order
Provide additional labor and materials to install a herringbone tile pattern on the accent
sink wall of each of the exterior restrooms.
Justification
The original contract plans call for a specific tile to be used as accent tile on the sink
wall of each of the exterior restrooms, however the details for the tile pattern were
omitted. As such the Contractor reasonably assumed that the tiles would be installed in
a conventional (“subway”) pattern not requiring additional cuts other than at the accent
wall edges. However, the Contractor directed by the City to install the tiles in a
herringbone pattern.
Compared with a subway tile pattern requiring minimal cuts at the wall edges, a
herringbone pattern generates an additional amount of wasted tile and associated labor
to install the tiles with 2 x 45 degree cuts for every tile and the need for a template to lay
out all the cut tiles prior to installation. The costs are detailed in Ambit EWO#14.
This change in tile pattern required additional work (labor and materials) not specified in
the original contract plans or the Contractor’s corresponding bid. Therefore, a change
order needs to be issued to account for the changes to the plans and the resulting
additional cost for the contractor to implement the change in the restrooms.

Cost Analysis
An independent estimate of the effort required to make the additional diagonal tile cuts
with every tile being cut twice. The purchase of additional tiles for the higher wastage
factor, which was the actual invoice amount paid, and applied. The proposal received
from Ambit was 1% more than the Sunbeam estimate, Sunbeam recommends
acceptance of the proposal.

Getting paper copies
