City of Rancho Palos Verdes Department of Public Works 30940 Hawthorne Blvd, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA 90275 (310)544-5252 CHANGE ORDER MEMORANDUM TO: RAMZI AWWAD, DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS FROM: ALAN BRAATVEDT, SUNBEAM CONSULTING DATE: FEBRUARY 26, 2024 SUBJECT: LADERA LINDA COMMUNITY PARK CONSTRUCTION CHANGE ORDER NUMBER: 87 Description of Construction Change Order Install electronic power transfer (EPT) hardware for keycard-accessible door nos. 108, 108.1, 121, 121.1, 124, and 124.1 (six doors total) at the main building. Providing EPTs at these keycard-accessible doors provides the necessary protection of their associated electrical wiring, effectively preventing damage to the wiring when in use. Justification The electronic power transfer (EPT) hardware was only specified in the original contract plans for the doors along the south perimeter of the main building and was inadvertently omitted for the six keycard-accessible doors as part of this change order. Additional work (labor, equipment, materials) is required to provide EPT hardware at these six doors for the entire main building’s inventory of keycard-accessible doors to have the necessary protections to associated electrical wiring. Since this additional work was not accounted for in the original contract plans and the contractor’s associated bid, a change order needs to be issued to account for this change to the contract plans and the additional associated costs. Cost Analysis A detailed breakdown of labor at $874.00 and materials at $3,593.52 was provided by the subcontractor Queen City Glass for a total cost of $4,467.52. AMG listed the cost of $4,467.52 and added 7% Overhead, 1.5% Insurance, and 1% Bond markups for a total of $4,895.73. SunBeam has estimated the cost of this proposed work and determined that the proposed costs from AMG are 12% less than SunBeam’s estimated cost. SunBeam recommends that the City authorize the costs proposed by AMG. An analysis of the schedule impact of this work will be addressed for this work as part of a meet and confer process for overall completion of the project. This approach is consistent with the changes to the standard change order provisions as approved by the City Attorney.
