RECOMMENDED COUNCIL ACTION:
(1)By majority vote of the entire City Council, appoint one member to the Civic Center
Advisory Committee, with a term of office ending June 2026.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
Recruitment began in October 2023 for one seat on the civic Center Advisory Committee
(CCAC) due to a special vacancy with an unexpired term ending in June 2026.
The recruitment for the vacancy was advertised and posted according to City
Council Policy No. 6. At the conclusion of the recruitment period on October 20, 2023, 5
applicants expressed interest. The City Council, as of this writing, will conduct
interviews on December 5, 2023.
Ballots listing the applicants for the City Council to cast their votes will be distributed prior
to the commencement of the City Council meeting on December 5. Staff will tally the
votes, and in compliance with the Brown Act, the City Clerk will read each
Councilmember’s ballot into the record at the meeting and declare the member appointed ,
by a majority vote of the City Council, to the committee.
Chapter 10, Section 10.2, of the City Council Procedures Manual provides as follows:

“The Council must and will make appointments to citizen City boards,
commissions, and committees pursuant to City Council Policy No. 6. Applicants
may be interviewed by the Council at a public meeting and shall be appointed by
a majority vote of the Council. All appointees serve at the pleasure of the Council.”
ALTERNATIVES:
In addition to the Staff recommendation, the following alternative actions are available for
the City Council’s consideration:
1.Direct Staff to readvertise the recruitment to conduct further interviews at a future
meeting.
2.Take other action, as deemed appropriate.
