Are you prepared? Before, during and after? Disaster Preparedness, Let’s Get Ready puppet show uses the magic of interactive and animated puppet characters on safety and preparedness educations tips for children and families. I. Start with characters and traits – what do they want to convey? A. THE CHARACTERS 1. PEDRO the Penguin: logical, keeps his friends safety in mind, shows audience how important it is to be aware of using sensory modes such as touch, sight, smell, to provide a full experience of a specific event. 2. SUNNY the Bunny: playful, curious. 3. CHIPPIE the Chipmunk: bashful, charming. 4. CLEO the Cat: expressive, flexible, shows sensory modes in fire safety. 5. TERRY the Turtle: cautious, careful. 6. GRACIE the Wonderdog: Calm, brave, animated. B. THE SETTING Cleo the Cat’s home on a day with friends. C. THE MESSAGE Designed to interactively teach young children and their families how to be aware, prepare and stay safe during disasters and emergencies. D. THE INNER STORY Guides (situations) the characters to tell their different safety messages. E. THE OUTER STORY Dramatic situations to place characters in and test what they learned. F. FINDING THE CHARACTER VOICES 1. The way they choose to say things is even more important than what they are saying. 2. Characters reveal themselves with their language. G. FORMATTING Break into acts and scenes. Having served on your Commission for years, Bill is familiar with and has acted upon all 11 specific Commissioner requirements laid out in your Planning Commissioner job description. Bill has served as an attorney for our US Attorney General. He used those skills in his extensive service with your Commission, having a leading role in formulating and implementing compromises and solutions for many difficult items. Undoubtably, BiWs advice saved our city many legal quagmires. Bill has lived in RPV for years and knows our city well. Most importantly, is quite familiar with our Municipal Codes and applicability. Further, Bill would bring his legal b?ckground, something which has been lost with past chair Julie's election to our School Board. Bill has a unique ability to speak in a very calm, measured and to the point manner, appreciated by staff, our Commission and those appearing before us. A skill undoubtably acquired serving in our legal profession. Our Commission now needs an experienced, skilled member who has trod the many roads our Commission travels! Bill has that experience and it is my pleasure and honor to highly recommend him to you for re-appointment to your Planning Commission. Thank you for your time and consideration. If you have any questions on my recommendation, pleased do not hesitate to contact me. ' Bob Nelson Planning Commissioner I Teresa Takaoka From: Sent: To: Subject: Robert Nelson Monday, March 6, 2023 1 :01 PM cc Tues Clsd Session: PC Commissioner Appt: Bill James Support Mayor Ferraro, Myron Pro-Tern Cruikshank, Councilmen Alegria, Bradley and Seo Another reason I support Bill's re-appointment! Last Tues our Planning Commission reviewed our General Plan 2022 activities. I had the opportunity to go back and read sections and found that Bill James was PC Chair when it was adopted in 2018. His appointment now would be a plus since our state encourages Gen Plan reviews every 8 years, making 2026 the year for our potential review. Several of you participated in that decade long revision (Dave Bradley, John Cruikshank, Eric Alegria) and will remember the long sessions, the patience required and the many repetitive, back and forth negotiations. I believe Bill James, as PC Chair when this went into our 2018 wrap, has travelled our revision road and would bring to our Commission leadership skills needed in any General Plan discussions or update thoughts. Thanks for this time!
