BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
Recruitment began in May 2022 for three vacancies on the Planning Commission and
Civic Center Advisory Committee (CCAC). The recruitments were advertised and posted
according to City Council Policy No. 6. At the conclusion of the recruitment period on May
27, 2022, a total of four applications were received for the Planning Commission,
including three from incumbents and one from a resident wishing to serve. Three
applications were received for the CCAC, all of which were from incumbents.
The City Council will conduct interviews of Planning Commission applicants on June 7,
2022, and will be asked to make the appointment that same evening during the regular
meeting.

Ballots for the Planning Commission will be distributed prior to the commencement of the
City Council meeting on June 7, 2022, listing the applicants for the City Council to cast
their votes. Staff will tally the votes, and in compliance with the Brown Act, the City Clerk
will read each Councilmember’s ballot into the record at the meeting and declare the
members appointed to the PC.
For the CCAC vacancies, with only incumbents expressing interest in the openings, Staff
recommends reappointing the incumbents with full terms to expire on June 30, 2026.
ALTERNATIVES
In addition to the Staff recommendation, the following alternative action is available for the
City Council’s consideration:
1. If the City Council prefers to interview the incumbents for the CCAC, direct
Staff to arrange interviews of each of the applicants with the full Council, at
a future date to be determined.
2. Take other action as deemed appropriate.
