COMMUNICATIONS
CITY COUNCIL ITEMS: Deputy Director Silva provided updates related to project considerations at
the August 3rd, August 17th, and September 7th City Council meetings.
STAFF: Deputy Director Silva reminded the Planning Commission of the August 24 th Joint Study
Session of the City Council and Planning Commission on the Housing Element Update.
COMMISSION: Chair Perestam informed the Planning Commission of the City Council’s request of
site visit reporting on project’s subject of an appeal hearing. Chair Perestam also requested that
information materials on appeal requests be provided to the Planning Commission with sufficient
time to allow the Planning Commission an opportunity to conduct a site visit.

Senior Planner Seeraty presented the staff report for a proposed 51 ft2 first-floor addition, a 35
ft2 covered porch, and a 718 ft2 second-floor addition to an existing two-story residence
measuring 22.1 feet in height.
Chair Perestam opened the public hearing.
Jeff Browning, the representative for the property owners, addressed the Planning Commission.
Chair Perestam closed the public hearing.
Discussion ensued among Planning Commission Members and Staff.
COMMISSIONER JAMES MOVED SECONDED BY COMMISSIONER CHURA TO ADOPT P.C.
RESOLUTION NO. 2021-14; APPROVING, WITH CONDITIONS, A HEIGHT VARIATION PERMIT
AND SITE PLAN REVIEW FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF A 769 FT 2 ADDITION TO AN EXISTING
2,288 FT2 TWO-STORY RESIDENCE CONSISTING OF A 718 FT2 SECOND-FLOOR ADDITION AND A
51 FT2 FIRST-FLOOR ADDITION FOR A NEW TOTAL STRUCTURE SIZE OF 3,057 FT 2 (GARAGE
INCLUDED) ALONG WITH A NEW 35 FT2 COVERED PORCH. THE MOTION PASSED ON A VOTE
OF 6-0.
CONTINUED PUBLIC HEARINGS:
3. SIGN CODE- REPEAL SECTION 17.76.050 AND REPLACE WITH CHAPTER 17.75 (SIGN CODE),

A request to repeal Section 17.76.050 (Sign Permit) of Article VII (Development Application
and Review) of Title 17 (Zoning) of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code and replace it
with Chapter 17.75 (Sign Code) of Article VII (Development Application and Review) of Title
17 (Zoning) of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code to update the City’s standards for
residential and non-residential signage.
City Attorney Gerli presented the staff report.

SEPTEMBER 14, 2021, PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING IN ORDER TO PROVIDE STAFF AN
OPPORTUNITY TO INCORPORATE ADDITIONAL INPUT AND TO UPDATE CODE LANGUAGE
FOR FURTHER CONSIDERATION. THE MOTION PASSED ON A VOTE OF 6 TO 0.
