SPECIAL MEETING
JANUARY 5, 2021
CALL TO ORDER:
A Special meeting of the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council for the purpose of a Closed
Session was called to order by Mayor Alegria at 6:06 P.M. at Fred Hesse Community
Park, McTaggart Hall, 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, notice having been given with
affidavit thereto on file.
City Council roll call was answered as follows:
PRESENT: Bradley, Cruikshank, Dyda, Ferraro, and Mayor Alegria
ABSENT: None
Also present were Ara Mihranian, City Manager; William W. Wynder, City Attorney;
Karina Banales, Deputy City Manager; Ken Rukavina, Director of Community
Development; Ramzi Awwad, Deputy Director of Public Works.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE:
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Deputy City Manager Karina ,Banales. e
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
None.

CLOSED SESSION ITEMS ANNOUNCED:
City Attorney Wynder announced the item to be discussed in Closed Session.
1. POTENTIAL LITIGATION AGAINST THE CITY:
GC 54956.9(d)(2) and (e)(1)
A point has been reached where, in the opinion of the legislative body of the local
agency on the advice of its legal counsel, based on existing facts and
circumstances, there is a significant exposure to litigation against the local agency,
the facts and circumstances of which are not yet known to a potential plaintiff or
plaintiffs.
RECESS TO CLOSED SESSION (FIRESIDE ROOM):
At 6:08 P.M., the Council recessed to Closed Session.
RECONVENE TO PUBLIC SESSION (McTAGGART HALL):
At 8:24 P.M., the Council reconvened to Open Session.

CLOSED SESSION REPORT:
City Attorney Wynder reported that City Council was briefed on one matter due to a
significant exposure to litigation in one case. The City Attorney's office provided a brief,
privileged and confidential status report to the Council, questions were asked and
answered, a litigation avoidance strategy was discussed and a four element litigation
avoidance strategy will be implemented in the future.
ADJOURNMENT:
At 8:25 P.M., Mayor Alegria adjourned to 5:30 P.M. January 19, 2020, for Interviews of
Committee applicants, and a Closed Session meeting and 7:00 P.M. for a Regular
meeting.
