BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
Recruitment began in November 2019 for seats on the Planning Commission and
various advisory boards due to expiring terms of office and special vacancies. The
Planning Commission has two vacancies due to expiring terms and one vacancy
created by then-Commissioner Bradley’s successful election to the City Council. The
Civic Center Advisory Committee has two vacancies due to expiring terms and three
resulted from resignations. Lastly, the Finance Advisory Committee has two vacancies
due to expiring terms.
The recruitment was advertised and posted according to City Council Policy No. 6. At
the conclusion of the recruitment period on January 10, 2020, the City received a total
of 17 applications from residents interested in serving. Six applicants are incumbents
wishing to reapply for their same committee or commission, two were from members
1
currently serving on other committees, and nine were from new residents wishing to
serve. The City Council conducted applicant interviews on January 15, 2020, and
earlier this evening (January 21, 2020).
Earlier this evening, ballots listing the applicants were distributed to the City Council to
cast their votes. Staff will tally the votes and in compliance with the Brown Act, the City
Clerk will read each Councilmember’s ballot into the record at the meeting and declare
the members appointed.
