Consideration and possible action to receive a status update from the Civic Center
Advisory Committee.

BACKGROUND:
The Civic Center Advisory Committee (Committee) was established on June 20, 2017 to
advise the City Council on the development of a Civic Center Master Plan. Since its
formation, the seven-person Committee has been actively involved in public outreach,
conceptual design, land-use constraints, creation of a programming document, and
other issues. The Committee which is chaired by Bill Gerstner, typically meets on the
fourth Thursday of the month. The Committee last met on February 7, 2019. The
regularly scheduled March 28, 2019 meeting was cancelled, per City Council Direction.
The City Council approved a Committee recommendation on July 17, 2018 M. to
receive pro bono services from M. Arthur Gensler Junior & Associates, Inc., one of the
largest architectural and design firms in the United States, to perform civic center
programming services. Gensler has subsequently conducted a public open house and
produced a Civic Center Program Document a preliminary conceptual design. The
Civic Center Program Document, which was approved by the Committee at it s
November 1, 2018 meeting, provides a detailed analysis of potential civic center
components (Attachment A). The fire station and municipal corporation yard are
included in the program document appendix, at the Committee’s direction. The fire
station and corporation yard were also not included in the draft conceptual design
prepared by Gensler.
Chair Gerstner will present a status update tonight on the Committee’s progress.
