BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
The Miraleste Drive Arterial Rehabilitation Project was awarded in June 6, 2017, to
Excel Paving Company. The scope of work included roadway rehabilitation consisting
of removal of failing asphalt concrete and base material and replacing it with full-depth
asphalt concrete (AC), asphalt concrete grinding, asphalt rubberized hot mix overlay,
microsurfacing, installation of ADA-compliant curb access ramps, visibility
improvements, removal and replacement of damaged asphalt concrete sidewalk, tree
1
root pruning, replacement of damaged traffic signs, and replacement of existing striping
and pavement markers.
During the course of the project, quicker-setting cement was used for the bus pads and
cross gutters to help alleviate construction impacts upon school traffic on Miraleste
Drive. Additional AC walkways were also added to provide a clean, clear pathway for
pedestrians at the south end of the project. The contractor’s work is now finished and
has been successfully reviewed for conformance to the project plans and specifications.
The total cost of the project is summarized in the following table:
