League of California Cities’ letter dated May 17, 2018 – Designation of Voting Delegates/Alternates (page A-1) BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: The League’s 2018 Annual Conference is scheduled for September 12-14, 2018, in Long Beach. An important part of the Annual Conference is the Annual Business Meeting, when the League membership considers and takes action on resolutions that establish League policy. This meeting is scheduled for 12:30 PM on Friday, September 14, 2018, at the Long Beach Convention Center. In order to vote at the Annual Business Meeting, the City Council must designate a voting delegate and up to two voting alternates, one of whom may vote in the event that the designated voting delegate is unable to serve in that capacity. The delegate and alternate(s) must be registered to attend the conference. They need not register for the entire conference; they may register for Friday only. This year Councilman Alegria (Delegate) and Councilman Cruikshank (Alternate) have been assigned by the City Council as the League of California Cities Annual Conference Voting Delegates. Both are unable to attend the entire conference, but Councilman 1 Cruikshank has confirmed his attendance on Friday for the Annual Business Meeting. The City has the opportunity to appoint up to two alternate voting delegates, one of whom may vote in the event that Councilman Cruikshank is unable to attend the business meeting. Once appointments are made, the City Clerk will provide the information to the League prior to the deadline, to ensure the ability to vote on matters pertaining to League policy during the Annual Business Meeting. 2 A-1 A-2 A-3
