RPVCCA_CC_SR_2012_01_31_C_NOC_Via_Canada_Storm_Drain_ImprovementsCfTYOF MEMORANDUM TO: FROM: DATE: SUBJECT: REVIEWED: HONORABLE MAYOR &CITY COUNCIL ME~MS TOM ODOM,DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS JANUARY 31,2012 NOTICE OF COMPLETION -VIA CANADA STORM DRAIN PD·478 INLET IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT CAROLYN LEHR,CITY MANAGER 09- Project Manager:Andy Winje,Associate Engineer RECOMMENDATION: 1.Accept the work as complete and authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion with the County Recorder; 2.Authorize the Director of Public Works to release the 10%retention payment in the amount of $4,573.20 to HYM Engineering,Inc.35 days after recordation of the Notice of Completion by the County Recorder contingent upon no claims being filed on the project,and the contractor posting an acceptable warranty bond;and 3.Authorize staff to notice the surety company to exonerate the Payment and Performance bonds following release of retention. BACKGROUND &DISCUSSION In order to alleviate local flooding at the cul-du-sac at the north end of Via Canada,staff engaged a consultant to design improvements to the inlets upstream that would allow more water into the storm drain system.City Council awarded a construction contract to HYM Engineering,Inc.on September 6,2011 to complete the improvements. The Project scope included installation of two curb inlets,about 110 feet of 18-inch reinforced concrete pipe and two buried junction structures connecting the new pipes to the existing system.The project was successfully completed according to the approved plans and specifications with small change orders to accommodate unknown C-1 field conditions.The project was completed under budget,yielding a net project savings of $3,316.A summary of project budget and costs is shown in Table 1. FISCAL IMPACT The recommended action will have no fiscal impact.This project was budgeted in the Water Quality and Flood Protection Program.
