CITY MANAGER RECRUITMENT -
BUDGET ADJUSTMENT
CAROLYNN PETRU, ACTING CITY MANAGE~
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution 2014-; Approving a budget adjustment to the FY14-15 Budget in the
amount of $10,000 for additional unanticipated expenses relating to the City Manager
recruitment process.
DISCUSSION
On October 7, 2014, the City Council met with Mr. Bob Murray and scheduled Sunday,
October 26, 2014, as the date the Council will interview six (6) candidates for City
Manager. The City Council requested that the initial interviews take place at Terranea.
Anticipated costs for the initial day of interviews are approximately $5,000. These costs
include reserving the meeting room at Terranea, providing food and beverages for the City
Council during the day, and reimbursement of travel and lodging costs (reimbursed as an
industry standard) for the candidates traveling from out-of-town. The amount of
reimbursement provided to candidates would be consistent with standard travel allowances
provided for municipal employees in the course of their normal duties. A further $5,000
may be needed to complete the recruitment process once the City Council has determined
its top-tier candidates and has set date(s) for those candidates to return to the City for
further vetting by the City Council and the City's executive management staff.
FISCAL IMPACT:
Staff estimates the total additional expense for the City Manager recruitment will be
$10,000 for interviews and candidate reimbursement for hotel and airfare. This would
increase the General fund budget, specifically in the Personnel program, by $10,000.
