Accept the work as complete. 2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion with the L.A. County Registrar- Recorder Office and if no claims are filed within 35 days after recordation, and upon the contractor posting an acceptable warranty bond, notice the surety company to exonerate the Performance bond. 3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to release the 5% retention payment in the amount of $64,786.63 to VSS International, Inc. 35 days after recordation of the Notice of Completion by the L.A. County Recorder contingent upon no claims being filed on the project, and the contractor posting an acceptable warranty bond. BACKGROUND Every year the City implements a residential street rehabilitation project as part of its street improvement program. This current project includes two areas in the City, one next to Hawthorne Boulevard and Silver Spur Road (Area 3) and the other next to Hawthorne Boulevard and Palos Verdes Drive West (Area 5). The first phase of this project was completed last year, and this second and final phase, which performed a few final roadway preparations as well as the actual resurfacing of the residential streets, has also been completed. G-1 Page2 DISCUSSION The project's scope included street resurfacing, placement of striping, pavement markers, and legends, and installation of a few ADA curb ramps and ancillary concrete work. Due to the low bid prices and expedient completion of the work by VSS International, Inc., the project was completed within the time allotted and amount budgeted, yielding a net savings of $24,267.47. The amount of retention held for Phase II was $64,786.63, which shall be returned to VSS International, Inc. upon successful conclusion of the Notice of Completion filing period. Therefore, the work should be accepted as complete and a Notice of Completion filed. FISCAL IMPACT The recommended action will have no fiscal impact.
