RPVCCA_CC_DM_2015_05_19_B_20150502_CC_MINS_ADJ_REG_MTG-Comm_Ldr_Breakfast_DRAFTDRAFT MINUTES RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING/ COMMUNITY LEADERS' MEETING MAY 2, 2015 The meeting was called to order at 9:55 A.M. by Mayor Knight at Pt. Vicente Interpretive Center, 31501 Palos Verdes Drive West. City Council roll call was answered as follows: PRESENT: Duhovic, Misetich, Brooks, and Mayor Knight ABSENT: Campbell (excused) Also present were City Manager Doug Willmore; Deputy City Manager Carolynn Petru; Community Development Director Joel Rojas; and City Clerk Carla Morreale. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Planning Commission Chair Bob Nelson. MAYOR'S WELCOME: Mayor Knight welcomed everyone to the meeting and introduced new City Manager Doug Willmore. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Mayor Pro Tem Brooks moved, seconded by Councilman Duhovic, to approve the agenda, as presented. Without objection, Mayor Knight so ordered. PUBLIC COMMENTS: (Audience Comments regarding Items Not on the Agenda) None. REGULAR BUSINESS: Meet Our New City Manager City Manager Willmore introduced himself and his wife, Annette English, and provided brief comments regarding his background. He explained that he works 1 for the City Council and his role in that capacity is to implement the vision of the City Council as effectively and efficiently as possible. He noted the importance of preserving the charm, slower pace, and beauty of all that represents the City of Rancho Palos Verdes. He noted the City staff would continue to focus on the following important components: making a safe community even safer; striving to be the best at those things the City does at all times; achieving the standard of "excellent" in customer service; preserving the way of life in the City while continuing to meet the challenges of discovery; and, maintaining and upgrading the City's aging infrastructure. City Manager Willmore noted that humans are 99.9% the same, yet the tendency can often be to focus on the .1% of differences. He emphasized the importance of focusing on communication, agreeing to disagree on some issues, and progressing with positive efforts on those things that unite us in a common cause, instead of dwelling on the differences. City Manager Willmore provided answers to a few audience questions regarding his management style and the state drought. He concluded that he has an open door policy, loves to hear from the citizens of Rancho Palos Verdes, and welcomes feedback and new ideas, noting that he has a lot to learn about the community. ADJOURNMENT: At 10:29 A.M., Mayor Knight adjourned the meeting.
