Accept the project as complete. 2. Authorize the City Clerk to file a Notice of Completion for the project with the County Recorder, and if no claims are filed within 35 days after recordation, authorize the release of the Performance Bond. 3. Authorize the Director of Public Works to release the project retention, 35 days after recordation of the Notice of Completion by the County Recorder contingent upon no claims being filed on the project bond. BACKGROUND The recently completed Salvation Army Trail closes the gap that existed between the trails on the City's Upper Point Vicente property and the trail to the east of the Salvation Army property along the Peninsula Pointe residential tract, and PV Drive South and permits trail users to traverse from the City Hall trails to the core area of the Nature Preserve. In addition, the trail allows guests staying at the Terranea Resort to traverse from the coastal trails on the resort to the Preserve areas around City Hall to the northwest; or to the Preserve areas around Portuguese Bend to the northeast. F-1 On May 6, 2014, City Council awarded the construction contract for the Salvation Army Trail Improvements project to Bennett Enterprises dba Bennett Landscape. The project was completed in January 2015. DISCUSSION The scope of work for this project included the construction of 2,200 linear feet of decomposed granite trail, horse steps to connect the new trail to the existing Tramonto trail, and low maintenance drought tolerant landscaping along Palos Verdes Drive South. FISCAL IMPACT The final construction cost for the project, which was completed $988 under budget, is presented in the following table: Salvation Army Trail Improvement Project Construction Budget Construction Contract $189,934 Construction Contingency $18,993 Total Construction Budget $208,927 Construction Expenditures Construction Contract (Actual) $182,937 Change Orders $25,002 Total Construction Cost $207,939 Annual Operational Costs Minor trail restoration efforts are anticipated following rain events. Annual Maintenance and Utility Costs Since this trail includes a limited amount of landscaping with no irrigation system, the cost of maintenance services and occasional repairs to the decomposed granite (DG) trail surface is expected to be incorporated into the current maintenance budget.
