MEMORANDUM
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR &CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS
FROM: SEAN M. ROBINSON, HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGER
DATE: FEBRUARY 17, 2015
SUBJECT: SALARY SCHEDULE RESOLUTION UPDATE
REVIEWED: CAROLYNN PETRU, DEPUTY CITY MANAGER®
RECOMMENDATION
Adopt Resolution 2015- , a resolution of the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos
Verdes, amending the City's Salary Schedule to reflect the compensation contracted with
the new City Manager on February 3, 2015, amending the titles of the Director and Deputy
Director of Finance, and adjusting the salary schedule to accurately reflect the maximum
monthly salary schedule for the Information Technology Manager.
BACKGROUND
On February 3, 2015, the City Council approved the proposed employment contract for
new City Manager Doug Willmore. A provision of the contract requires a revision to
previously approved Resolution No. 2014-17 (Salary Schedule). This resolution is in need
of updating to reflect the approved contractual obligations.
DISCUSSION
Approval of the proposed resolution allows Staff to complete the onboarding process for
the new City Manager, such that his salary may be appropriately recorded in keeping with
the City's defined salary schedules. As such, Staff has amended the City's Salary
Resolution No. 2014-17 to reflect an annual compensation level of $215,000 and added
the City Manager's Auto Allowance of $700 per month.
In addition to adjusting the salary schedule for the City Manager, Staff needed to update
two Executive Management job titles due to departmental shifts. Since the IT Manager
was moved under the City Manager Office in April of 2014, it necessitated the adjustment
to the titles of the Director and Deputy Director of Finance and Information Technology to

remove the reference to Information Technology in order to accurately reflect the current
roles and responsibilities of the department.
Finally, Staff recognized an error on the monthly salary range for the Information
Technology (IT) Manager. Although the annual salary range was correct, the monthly
salary range did not reflect what the City Council approved at the March 18, 2014 City
Council Meeting. Therefore, the IT Manager's monthly maximum salary should be
reflected as $10,487, not $11,966. The attached resolution amends the incorrect data of
Resolution No. 2014-17.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funding increases from the General Fund/Personnel Costs to reflect the City Manager's
Salary Schedule change from $200,000 to $215,000, along with the contractually agreed
upon distribution of $700 per month for the City Manager's Auto Allowance.
