VIEW RESTORATION COMMISSION
SPECIAL MEETING
June 8, 2000
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Alberio at 7:20 p.m. at Fred Hesse
Community Building, 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard. The Pledge of Allegiance followed,
led by Councilman Stern.
Present: Commissioners Drages, Dyda, Franklin, Iseda, Monks, Simmons, Vice
Chairman Slayden, and Chairman Alberio.
Absent: Commissioner Weber was absent.
Also present were Project Coordinator Nelson, Project Coordinator E. Ursu, and
Recording Secretary R. Ursu.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Vice-Chairman Slayden moved to approve the Agenda as presented, seconded by
Commissioner Franklin. There being no objection, the Agenda was approved.
COMMUNICATIONS
Project Coordinator Nelson distributed and briefly discussed three items of
communication with the Commission: 1) Commissioner Cordova's letter of resignation
dated May 24, 2000; 2) A copy of the View Restoration Commission Member List; and,
3) The View Restoration Commission Ordinance Review And Training June 2000
packet, prepared by Project Coordinator E. Ursu.
Project Coordinator E. Ursu explained that there are two Pre-application meetings
scheduled in June and circulated a Commissioner sign-up sheet for those meetings.
Chairman Alberio asked the Commissioners for their opinion as to whether site visits
should occur before pre-application meetings.
It was the consensus of the View Restoration Commission that site visits should not
occur before pre-application meetings, in order to maintain a position of neutrality, as is
the current practice.

NEW BUSINESS:
Project Coordinator E. Ursu and Project Coordinator Nelson conducted a Power-

Point Presentation of the View Restoration, View Preservation, and City Tree Review
Permit Processes, and answered the Commissioners' questions.
Project Coordinator E. Ursu and Project Coordinator Nelson presented before and
after photographs of View Restoration and View Preservation cases which have
been heard by the View Restoration Commission.
ITEMS TO BE PLACED ON FUTURE AGENDAS:
Project Coordinator E. Ursu stated that at a future date, he would like to review the
different methods of trimming foliage with the Commission.
Chairman Alberio requested that a glossary of terms be distributed when the discussion
of various trimming methods occurs.
Commissioner Franklin requested a pictorial glossary of trees common in the City, that
may appear in future cases, in order to help the Commission clearly identify view
impairing foliage.
ADJOURMENT:
Commissioner Dyda moved to adjourn, seconded by Commissioner Monks. The
meeting was duly adjourned at 9:15 p.m. to Thursday, July 6, 2000 at 7:00 p.m. at
Hesse Park.
