A RESOLUTION OF THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO PALOS VERDES APPROVING WITH CONDITIONS SIGN PERMIT
NO. 584 FOR A READER BOARD SIGN SIXTEEN FEET IN HEIGHT TO
BE LOCATED AT THE HAWTHORNE BOULEVARD ACCESS OF THE
GOLDEN COVE SHOPPING CENTER (31244 PALOS VERDES DRIVE
WEST) .
WHEREAS, the Carlson Company submitted Sign Permit No. 584 on
May 22, 1992 requesting a reader board monument sign eighteen feet
in height and ten feet four inches in width located at the
Hawthorne Boulevard Access of the Golden Cove Shopping Center at
31244 Palos Verdes Drive West; and
WHEREAS, The Planning Commission of the City of Rancho Palos
Verdes held a public hearing on September 22, 1992 at which time
all interested parties were given an opportunity to be heard and
present evidence; and
NOW, THEREFORE, THE PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS
VERDES DOES HEREBY FIND DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: That the proposed sign would not reduce
intersection visibility and would not decrease the necessary sight-
distance for egress and ingress to the center from Hawthorne
Boulevard and that there will be no further traffic visibility
impacts resulting from the subject sign.
Section 2: That the proposed sign will not be contrary to the
objectives of the General Plan and zoning land use designations,
since the applicant has agreed to reduce the total height of the
sign to 16 feet above existing adjacent grade.
Section 3 : That the proposed sign will preserve the
architectural style and unique characteristics of the existing
retail center.
Section 4: For the foregoing reasons and based on the
information and findings included in the Staff report and records
of the proceedings, the Planning Commission hereby approves Sign
Permit No. 584 to allow the replacement of an existing monument
sign with a reader board monument sign sixteen feet tall and 10
feet four inches wide located at the Hawthorne Boulevard access of
the Golden Cove Shopping Center subject to the conditions outlined
in the attached Exhibit "A".

Exhibit "A"
CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL
SIGN PERMIT NO. 584
1. The height of the proposed sign shall be limited to a
height of 16 feet to be measured from existing adjacent
grade.
2 . The location of the proposed sign shall be limited to the
exact location that is currently occupied by the "Vons" lead
in sign as shown on the approved plan.
3 . Any alteration of this sign shall be subject to the review and
approval of the Director of Environmental Services.
4. Prior to Building Permit issuance, all existing window signs
that exceed the Development Code Standards; (greater than five
percent of the total window area must be removed.
5 Sign colors shall be limited to a total of four which shall be
approved by the Director of Environmental Services.
6. The proposed sign shall comply with all local building and
electrical codes.
7. No animated or flashing components will be permitted.
8. No exposed electrical tubing or "cross-over" will be
permitted.
9. No projections above or below the sign panel will be
permitted.
10. All lettering/logos shall be restricted to the sign area and
all lettering shall be subject to the approval of the Director
of Environmental Services.
11. All sign material and colors must be comparable with the
building materials of the center and are subject to approval
by the director of Environmental Services.
