PC MINS 199206060 MINUTES PLANNING COMMISSION SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 6, 1992 The meeting was called to order at 1:10 p.m. by Chairman Katherman at The Salvation Army Headquarters facility located at 30840 Hawthorne Boulevard. PRESENT: Katherman, Alberio, Byrd, Hayes, Lorenzen, Mowlds ABSENT: Clark Also present were Director of Environmental Services Dudley Onderdonk, Associate Planner Joel Rojas, Assistant Planner Kimberly Klopfenstein, Deidre Gee (The Keith Companies), Major Kenneth Gibson (The Salvation Army), Thomas Hause (HRC Consultants), Elizabeth Kelly, and Lois Larue. The Planning Commission met in the parking lot adjacent to the main open court of the Salvation Army complex. Associate Planner Rojas introduced Major Gibson, the Salvation Army project manager, and Mr. Hause, the project architect, to the Commission and explained that the purpose of the site visit was to view the existing Salvation Army facility and the location of the additions proposed as part of the 15 -year master plan build -out (attached). Major Gibson led the Commission on a walking tour of the developed facility while explaining the function of the Salvation Army Headquarters and the uses of the existing buildings on the site. The Commission viewed the location of the proposed expansion of existing Building "C" (administration), sites for proposed Buildings "J" ( offices) and "I" (cadet housing), and the recently completed chapel expansion (Building "D"). I Major Gibson explained the Salvation Army's planned use and need for the proposed Education/Conference Center and the Commission was shown a full-scale architectural model of the proposed structure. The Commission then viewed the location of the proposed Education/Conference Center from the upper developed facility as a silhouette of the proposed structures (Buildings 'T" and "L -l") was constructed by the Salvation Army. Also viewed were the locations of the three proposed private homes (Buildings M). The Commission then drove off the site, exiting onto Palos Verdes Drive South and onto the undeveloped 7 -acre site of the proposed Education/Conference Center. The Commission viewed the silhouette of the proposed structures from Palos Verdes Drive South. The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
