PORTUGUESE POINT - CLOSURE OF ACCESS TO BASE (1201)
Parks & Recreation Director Mary Thomas presented the September 1,
1992 staff memorandum and the recommendation that the Board direct
staff to prepare a resolution closing the base of Portuguese Point
to public access in the interest of public health and safety and
direct staff to order and install appropriate warning signs.
The Board discussed the possibility of having a phone located in I/
the beach area and the fact that vandalism was a real threat to the
existence of any phone in that location. The Board also questioned
if the proposed signage was enough to dissuade people from using
that location for fishing.
Speaking in opposition to the closure of this access was Lois
Larue, 3136 Barkentine Road.
Member Ryan moved, seconded by Member Brooks to approve the staff
recommendation. Motion carried.
ADJOURNMENT:
