CC RES 1974-017 RESOLUTION NO. 74-17 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES CALLING FOR A CONTRACT WITH THE CALIFORNIA HIGHWAY PATROL FOR PARTICIPATION IN THE ABANDONED VEHICLE ABATEMENT PROGRAM. WHEREAS, the State of California encourages municipalities to establish an Abandoned Vehicles Abatement Program for removing abandoned vehicles from public and private property; and WHEREAS, the State of California has created an Abandoned Vehicle Trust Fund to assist municipalities in establishing an Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program; and WHEREAS, municipalities may obtain monies from the Abandoned Vehicle Trust Fund by executing a contract with the California High- way Patrol in which the municipality covenants to (a) furnish necessary personnel and services for an Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program, (b) remove abandoned vehicles in the manner prescribed by State Law, and (c) maintain records regarding the removal of abandoned vehicles; and WHEREAS, Chapter 3 , Article III of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code provides for the removal of abandoned vehicles in the manner prescribed by State Law; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes hereby declares an intention and desire to execute a contract with the California Highway Patrol for participation in the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Staff send the California Highway Patrol the following letters which the California Highway Patrol requires prior to executing the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program contract: (a) a letter from the City Attorney certifying that Chapter 3, Article III of the Municipal Code com- plies with the requirement of State law for the removal of abandoned vehicles; (b) a letter stating the number of abandoned vehicles to be abated, other than from highways, during the 1973- 1974 Fiscal Year and the total anticipated operational and admini- strative cost for abatement; and (c) a letter designating the name, address and telephone number of the person to whom correspond- ence and other communication should be addressed concerning the Abandoned Vehicle Abatement Program.
