RESOLUTION NO. 74-96 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION TO CHANGE THE NAME OF SAID CITY FROM RANCHO PALOS VERDES TO PALOS VERDES, HELD ON THE 5TH DAY OF NOVEMBER, 1974, DECLARING THE RESULT THEREOF AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS ARE PROVIDED BY LAW WHEREAS , a special municipal election was held and conducted in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes , State of California , on Tuesday, the 5th of November, 1974, as required by law; and WHEREAS , notice of said election was duly given in the time, form and manner provided by law; and said election was consolidated with the statewide election held on said date; that election officers were appointed and that in all respects said election was held and con- ducted and the votes cast thereat, received and canvassed and the returns made and declared in the time, form and manner required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the holding of elections; and WHEREAS , the Registrar-Recorder of the County of Los Angeles did canvass the votes cast and has reported the results thereof to the City Council; and WHEREAS , on the 3rd day of December, 1974, at the hour of 7:30 o'clock P.M. , the City Council duly assembled at its usual place of meeting and did receive the results of such canvass of the returns of said elec- tion, as a result of which the City Council finds the number of votes cast and other matters required by law to be as stated hereinafter. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES, CALIFORNIA, DOES HEREBY RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS : Section 1. That at said Special Election the following measure was submitted to the electors , to wit: "Shall the name of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes be changed from Rancho Palos Verdes to Palos Verdes?" Section 2. That the whole number of votes cast in said election (except absent voter ballots) was four- teen thousand, six hundred seventy- eight (14,678) . That the whole number of absent voter ballots cast in said election was six hundred nineteen (619) , making a total of fifteen thousand, two hundred ninety- seven (15 ,297) votes cast in said election. Section 3. That the number of votes given at said precincts for and against the measure are set forth on the Registrar-Recorder's report consisting of three pages , a true and correct copy of which is hereto attached. Section 4. As a result of said election the number of votes given in the City for and against said measure were as follows : The total number of votes cast for said measure (except absent voter ballots) : 8 ,469 The total number of absent voter ballots for said measure: 356 Total 8 ,825 The total number of votes cast against said measure (except absent voter ballots) : 4,777 The total number of absent voter ballots against said measure: 196, Total 4,973 Section 5,. The City Clerk shall enter on the records of the City Council of said City a statement of the result of said election, showing : 1. The whole number of votes cast in the elec- tion. 2. The measure voted upon. 3. The number of votes cast at the polls and by absentee ballot. 4. The number of votes given in the election for and against said measure. Section 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original resolutions of said City; and shall make a minute of the passage and adoption thereof in the minutes of the meeting of the City Council at which the same is passed and adopted.
