CC RES 1977-075 RESOLUTION NO. 77-75 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES ENDORSING THE ACTION OF THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IN PROTESTING THE UNJUST AND UNFAIR AUTOMOBILE INSURANCE PREMIUMS BEING IMPOSED ON LOCAL RESIDENTS WHEREAS, the automobile insurance industry establishes rates and premiums based on the location of a person's residence and not on that person's driving record; and WHEREAS, comparisons show that residents of Los Angeles County generally and of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes in particular pay higher automobile insurance premiums than people living elsewhere in California; and WHEREAS, automobile insurance companies allege that the high cost of repairing damaged vehicles in Los Angeles County causes the insurance companies to charge a higher rate to drivers of Los Angeles County; and WHEREAS, investigations have shown that automobile repair costs are comparatively lower in Los Angeles County than elsewhere in California; and WHEREAS, investigations have shown that the rate of incidents of injury accidents in Los Angeles County generally and in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes in particular is considerably lower than that in other areas in California; and WHEREAS, such investigations demonstrate that the automobile insurance companies are charging unjust and unfair premiums to drivers re- siding in Los Angeles County generally and in the City of Rancho Palos Verdes in particular; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, as follows: Section 1. That the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes does hereby endorse and support the action of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles in their efforts in protesting the unfair and unjust automobile insurance rates being imposed upon local residents. Section 2. The South Bay Cities Association is hereby urged to support the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles in its efforts to protect local residents from being charged said unjust and unfair automobile insurance rates. Section 3. The City Clerk is hereby directed to send copies of this resolution to State Senator Robert Beverly, Assemblywoman Marilyn Ryan, the Board of Supervisors of the County of Los Angeles and the South Bay Cities Association.
