RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL
Adjourned Regular Meeting
July 23, 1974
The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at Ridgecrest Intermediate School,
28915 Northbay Road, notice having been given with affidavit thereto on file.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, roll call was answered as
follows:
PRESENT: Councilmen Gunther Buerk, Ken Dyda, Francis D. Ruth,
II/
Robert E. Ryan and Mayor Marilyn Ryan
ABSENT: None
Also present were City Manager Leonard G. Wood, Planning Director Sharon W. High-
tower, Community Services Officer Doris Brown and Administrative Services Officer
David B. Smith.

FIRE CODE rection of the ordinance regarding brush con-
trol and amending the fire code as directed by
the City Council at the Regular Meeting of
July 16 and read by title ORDINANCE NO. 49U
OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES AMENDING THE FIRE CODE AND THE RANCHO PALOS
VERDES MUNICIPAL CODE AND DECLARING THE URGENCY THEREOF.
On motion of Councilman Dyda, seconded by Councilman Ryan, further reading was
waived and the ordinance was adopted as an urgency ordinance on the following
roll call vote:
AYES: Buerk, Dyda, Ruth, R. Ryan, M. Ryan
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
An identical ordinance,deleting the urgency clause in Section 3, was then intro-
duced as a regular ordinance for first reading, and the title was read as follows:
ORDINANCE NO. 49 OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES AMENDING THE FIRE CODE AND
THE RANCHO PALOS VERDES MUNICIPAL CODE.
On motion of Councilman Ryan, seconded by Councilman Dyda, and unanimously carried,
Ordinance No. 49 was passed to second reading.
PUBLIC HEARING A public hearing on the proposed budget for
ANNUAL BUDGET fiscal year 1974-75 was opened. The City
FISCAL 1974-75 Manager indicated that copies of the proposed
budget had been handed to the City Council,
many outside agencies, and homeowner groups in
June, and presented an over-view of the budget
as it was originally proposed, together with some corrections that he now
recommended.
Questions and comments were made by various members of the audience, including
Lou Rosenberg, Andy Warner (representing Ocean View Homeowners Association) , and
others.
Following a number of questions and comments by members of the City Council after
close of the public hearing, it was moved by Councilman Dyda, seconded by Council- .
man Ryan and carried, that the City Council hold a work session on July 30 at the
City Offices on the new material submitted by the City Manager.

CITY ANNIVERSARY On motion of Councilman Dyda, seconded by
CELEBRATION Councilman Ruth and carried, the City Council
authorized employment of the firm of Kirbach and
Bourne to perform Public Relations functions at
an amount not to exceed $500, and authorized an
operating budget not to exceed $500 for conducting a City anniversary celebration
the first week in September.
The Mayor was authorized to issue a proclamation declaring the week August 31
through September 7 for the celebration, working in conjunction with the Save
Our Coastline organization as the kickoff function, and, throughout the week, with
the Golden Cove Merchants Association for events culminating in the final City
celebration at Golden Cove on September 7.
ADJOURNMENT There being no further business to come before
the City Council, at 11:05 p.m. , the meeting
was adjourned to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 30,
1974, at the City Offices.
