CC MINS 19790108 ADJ M I NUT E S RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL REGULAR ADJOURNED MEETING JANUARY 8, 1978 The meeting was called to order by Mayor Ken Dyda at 7:35 P.M. at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District Building, 30942 Hawthorne Boulevard. After the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag, roll call was answered as follows: AYES: RYAN, BUERK, SHAW, HEIN AND MAYOR DYDA NOES: NONE Also present were City Manager Leonard G. Wood and Director of Planning Sharon W. Hightower. PARK SITE NAMES Lower Nike Site: Councilman Ryan moved, (1201) seconded by Councilwoman Shaw to name the lower Nike Site Pointe Vicente Park. The motion carried unanimously. Upper Nike Site: Councilman Buerk moved, seconded by Council- woman Hein to name the Upper Nike Site Hilltop Park. Mayor Dyda requested a substitute motion to name the Upper Nike Site Del Cerro Park. The motion was seconded by Councilman Ryan and carried unanimously. ANTENNA ORDINANCE WORK SESSION Code Amendment No. 1 - Antennas (1801) Council discussed the subcommittee's report recommending that various categories of antennas be established. The subcommittee suggested beginning with mast diameter. RECESS 9:05 P.M. , reconvened at 9:10 P.M. It was moved by Councilwoman Shaw, seconded by Councilman Ryan, and defeated unani- mously to make 40 ft. the cut off for Category 1. It was moved by Councilman Buerk, seconded by Councilwoman Hein, and passed unani- mously to establish Category 1, exempt from permits, antennas which are 40 ft. or less in height, have masts which are 2 inches or less in diameter, have boom lengths of 16 ft. or less, and, if no boom, 2 sq ft. or less of wind surface area. It was moved by Councilwoman Shaw, seconded by Councilman Ryan, and passed unani- mously to establish Category 2, for which some kind of permit would be required, antennas which are 40 ft. or less in height, have masts greater than 2 inches in diameter, have boom lengths of greater than 16 ft. , or if no boom, greater than 2 sq. ft. of wind surface area. It was moved by Councilwoman Hein, seconded by Councilman Ryan, and passed (3-2) to reconsider the Category 2 motion. -1- 1/8/78 It was moved by Councilman Buerk, seconded by Councilman Ryan, and passed (4-1) to establish Category 2, for which some kind of permit would be required, free-standing antennas which must nest to 30 ft. or less in height, have masts greater than 2 inches in diameter, have boom lengths of greater than 16 ft. , or, if no boom, greater than 2 sq. ft. of wind surface area but less than 12 sq. ft. Such antennas must be nested except when the operator is on the premises receiving or transmitting and may not exceed 75 ft. in extendable height. It was moved, seconded, and passed unanimously to establish Category 3, for which some special variance would be required, for all other antennas. A Work Session will be scheduled at the next regular meeting (possibly Jan. 29 or 30) . The meeting was adjourned at 10:58 P.M. MAYO ATTEST: LEONARD G.
