A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OR RANCHO PALOS VERDES ESTABLISHING
CERTAIN POSITIONS AND RELATED SALARY
RANGES FOR FISCAL YEAR 1984 -850
WHEREAS, the City Manager is authorized and directed,
under Section 2.08.070 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code
to recommend the organization or reorganization of positions in
the best interests of the City; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended the creation
of the regular, full -time position of Secretary II as set forth
in Exhibit "A ", at the salary range $1486 -$1850 for fiscal year
1984-85; and
WHEREAS, the City Manager has recommended the creation
of the permanent, part -time position of Parking Lot Attendant,
as set forth in Exhibit "B". at the salary range $4.50 -$5.13
per hour for fiscal year 1984-85;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO PALOS VERDES DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DETERMINE, AND ORDER
AS FOLLOWS:
1. The regular, full -time position of Secretary II,
as set forth in Exhibit "A". is created at the salary range
$1486 -$1850 for fiscal year 1984-85; and
2. The permanent, part -time position of Parking
Lot Attendant, as set forth in Exhibit "B", is created at the
salary range $4.50 -$5.13 per hour for fiscal year 1984-85;
and
3. The City Manager is directed to take whatever
steps are necessary to implement these actions.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED THIS 19 day of June, 1984.

SECRETARY II
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision to perform a variety of specialized
secretarial duties that require the use of typing, shorthand,
and di ctaphone skills; assist the City Manager/professional
staff; provide secretarial support for the members of the
City Council; to provide City Manager /City Council with well
organized, professionally run office, and to do related work as
required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Performs secretarial work for the City Manager, City Council,
and support staff; takes, transcribes, and organizes dictation
from dictaphone, types a variety of correspondence, memoranda,
reports, and other materials; typing duties require independent
judgment and the ability to rearrange, expand, segregate, or
tabulate printed material; composes and edits correspondence on
a variety of subjects. Screens callers and visitors, receives
messages, schedules appointments, makes and coordinates travel
arrangements and meeting attendance for City Manager, City
Council and support staff . Screens, organizes and routes in-
coming correspondence, and invitations; maintains weekly
reading file; compiles weekly status reports and Council
agenda/ information packets; maintains follow -up system; main-
tains extensive file system and records management for City
Manager and City Council's office. Responsible for answering
public inquiries and complaints when appropriate; refers
inquiries to appropriate department; interfaces with public
officials from a variety of organizations and assists staff in
special projects. Coordinates activities with all City depart-
ments, prepares purchase orders, and monitors office supplies
and equipment. Peforms duties of Deputy City Treasurer, as
assigned.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
- Modern office methods, procedures, and practices*
Bookkeeping /Treasury Management skills;
Business english, including vocabulary, correct
grammatical usage, and punctuation;

- General functions of assigned department
- Modern filing, indexing, and record keeping methods and
practices; and
Ability to:
Perform secretarial, and clerical work involving the use
of independent judgment and requiring accuracy and speed;
Edit and compose correspondence;
Maintain extensive filing system;
Be responsible to needs of City Manager and City Council;
Spell correctly and use correct eng li sh ;
Follow oral and written directions;
Carry out assignments independently;
Maintain cooperative working relationships;
Type at speed of 50 wpm;
Take dictation at speed of 90 wpm;
Operate and transcribe from dictaphone machine; and
Follow-up on assignment /tickler file items without
direction.
EXPERIENCE:
Five years of increasingly responsible and clerical experience
at management level, involving frequent public contact/
communications .
Graduation from accredited secretarial preparation program is
desirable.
REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California drivers license.

PARKING LOT ATTENDANT
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision of Department Director or Recreation
Supervisor operates parking booth, including fee collection and
record keeping and performs related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Stationed at booth at all times during work shift, parking lot
attendant issues entry tickets, keeps daily /monthly records of
paid and complimentary entries, collects and records all
parking fees; monitors parking lot security, interfaces with
Sheriff's office when necessary; monitors parking booth equip-
ment, reports incidents, malfunctions and maintenance problems
to supervisor; keeps and submits accurate fee and attendance
records for Department of Administrative Services; and deposits
fees as instructed.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to:
Keep accurate records;
Produce legible, accurate reports;
Relate to the public in a positive manner;
Perform arithmetic computations;
- Be prompt, reliable and responsible;
Perform assigned duties as required.
Experience /Requirements :
- Must be 18 years of age or older;
Possess valid California Driver's License;
Must be bondable;
One year cashier or parking attendant experience
desirable;
- Must supply and wear prescribed uniform.
