The meeting was called to order at 8.900 A.M. by Mayor
Bacharach, notice having been given. with affidavit thereto on
file,
PRESENT: McTaggart, Hughes, Hinchliffe, Mayor Bacharach
ABSENT* Ryan
Also present were City Manager McDuffie', Finance Director
Kevin Smith, Public Works Director George Wentz, City Clerk
Jo Purcell, Parks and Recreation Director Mary Thomas, Public
Information "Off*lcer/Administrative Assistant Katie Pitcher.
After self,"introductloons and opening remarks by the Mayor
brief remarks were made on the following items by Members ,of
the City Council and Committee Members.

May 11th Transit Public Forum (Bacharach)
May 18th Housing Element Meeting (Curtis Williams)
Congressman Dana Rohrabacher made an appearance and gave
briefly talked about national and international issues.
RECYCLING UPDATE Mayor Bacharach gave an. - I -
update on the status of the
recycling program.
L.A. COUNTY SHERIFF Councilman Hughes gave an
overview on the relationship
between the Sheriff's Department and the City and, in
particular, the Regional Contract for police services.
Commander Dennis Gillard of the Lomita Sheriff's Station
talked briefly about the burglary alarm situation and how
most of those alarms are false alarms.
RECREATION AND PARKS Parks and Recreation Director
ACTIVITIES Mary Thomas-gave a brief
summary of the programs for the
upcoming summer and Assistant Director Mona Dill talked about
the summer concert series plannned for the month of August,
The meeting was then opened 'up for questions from the
audience; an inquiry was made about the transit shelters and
when they would be completed; when theMonaghan. project would.
be started; the good response time from the sheriff,on a call
in the Eastview area, the status of the Narbonne Right-of-
Way,
Captain Dillard explained the use of Community Services
Officers in lieu of sworn personnel and the fact that these
Community Services Officers would free up the time: for ,.-law
enforcement,,
Mimi Horowitz from the Cable TV Advisory Board announced that
the access channel was available to community g roups and
encouraged its.use. An inquiry was made about the traffic at
the shopping center at the Terra'ces.and whether or not an
additional'signal was going to be installed in that area.
ADJOURNMENT
At 10:06 A*M* the meeting adjourned to a budget . work session
