RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL
COMMUNITY LEADERS' BREAKFAST
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 1993
The meeting was called to order at 8:55 A.M. by Mayor Susan Brooks
at the Hesse Park Community Center, 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard,
notice having been given with affidavit thereto on file.
PRESENT: KUYKENDALL, McTAGGART, BACHARACH AND MAYOR BROOKS
Self introductions followed the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag
which was led by Mayor Pro Tem Kuykendall.
After the opening remarks by Mayor Brooks the following topics were
discussed:
Report from the Fire Department: L. A. County Fire Department
Batallian Chief James Addison gave a report on the Department's
efforts to make sure that sufficient manpower was available during
this fire season.
Report f rom _ the Sher i f f : ; Commander of the Lomita Sher i f f ' s Station
Herb Pettus ',also ekplained the manpower situation at the Lomita
Station and how they are keeping a high prof ile as a prevention to
arson.
Vision Statement: Mayor Brooks then summarized the Vision Statement
as adopted by the City Council on September 21, 19930
Goals and Objectives: Each Councilmember then summarized specific
goals and objectives as follows:
Public Safety Goals & Objectives - summarized by Mayor Brooks:
Communications, Customer Service and Competent Workforce Goals
& Objectives - summarized by Councilwoman Bacharach:
Economic Development Goals and Objectives - summarized by
Mayor Pro Tem Kuykendall.
City Infrastructure Goals & Objectives - summarized by
Councilman John McTaggart.
(All of these goals and objectives are listed in detail in the
September 21, 1993 City Council minutes.)
Questions and Answers: The meeting then opened up for a brief
question and answer period between the Council and attendees.
Questions were asked about the following:
• The status of the view restoration ordinance.
• Possible consolidation of services with other Peninsula
cities.
• If a more "reader friendly" budget format could be
devised by the City.
• How Proposition "A" funds will be used.
• The current status of the Marineland project.
(At 10:15 A.M. Mayor Pro Tem Kuykendall was excused from the
meeting.).
• A request that the City continue to keep the trails
network.
• The possibility of licensing bicyclists as a revenue
raising measure.
ADJOURNMENT: At 10:16 the meeting adjourned on motion of
Councilman McTaggart.
