COMMUNITY LEADERS' BREAKFAST
OCTOBER 31, 1998
The meeting was called to order at 9:15 A.M. by Mayor Barbara Ferraro at Fred Hesse
Community Park, 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, notice having been given with affidavit
thereto on file.
PRESENT : Hollingsworth, McTaggart, and Mayor Ferraro
ABSENT: Byrd and Lyon
Also present were City Manager Les Evans, Assistant City Manager Carolynn Petru,
Acting Director of Public Works Dean Allison, Director of Planning, Building and Code
Enforcement Joel Rojas, Director of Recreation & Parks Ron Rosenfeld, and
Administrative Services Director/City Clerk Jo Purcell.
After opening remarks by Mayor Ferraro, self introductions followed by all attendees.
Presentation of 25th Anniversary Pins
Senator Karnette and Assemblyman Steve Kuykendall were presented with 25th
anniversary logo pins in honor of the City's incorporation.
Senator Betty Karnette
Senator Betty Karnette reported on legislation considered by the State Senate this
session and in particular about bills affecting education and transportation which were
of particular importance to this area. She then fielded questions from the audience
about certain propositions on the upcoming November 3 ballot.
Assemblyman Steve Kuykendall Comments
Assemblyman Steve Kuykendall expressed his gratitude and acknowledged Sen.
Karnette's role in securing the passage of the Eastview school bill. He also discussed
the Park and School bond propositions, international trade, and the Alameda corridor.
He then fielded questions from the audience about certain propositions on the
November 3 ballot.
ADJOURNMENT: At 10:25 A.M the meeting adjourned on motion of Mayor Ferraro.
