City Storm Drains
City Manager Les Evans introduced the subject of maintenance of the City's
infrastructure and in particular the repair of the City roadways which, as the result
of the City's maintenance schedule, were now deemed to be in excellent
condition. The City's aging storm drain system was now determined to be the
next major item of concern and expense.
Public Works Director Allison then summarized the findings of the study that had
been conducted to determine the overall condition of the City's storm drain
system. The study revealed that the area with the highest concentration of
critical conditions existing was along Palos Verdes Drive East. Repair of that
area was estimated to cost $10 million. Several other areas of the City were also
in need of repair and replacement. Altogether, it was estimated that over the
next ten years approximately $ 15 million of expenditures would have to be made
to bring the City's storm drain system up to good condition.
Director Allison then proceed to present a "Power Point" display of pictures which
depicted storm drains in various stages of deterioration.
Upon completion of the presentation, City Manager Evans and Director Allison
then fielded questions about the timeline for repair of the system; the ongoing
maintenance cost for the system upon the completion of the repairs; and, the
sources of revenue for the repair and maintenance.
Mayor Lyon urged those in attendance to attend the upcoming budget workshops
scheduled for April 21, May 3, and May 29.
