CC MINS 20010407 ADJMINUTES RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING COMMUNITY LEADERS' BREAKFAST MEETING SATURDAY, APRIL 7, 2001 The meeting was called to order at 9:20 A.M. by Mayor Marilyn Lyon at the Fred Hesse Community ark, 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard, notice having been given with affidavit thereto on file. Present: Byrd, McTaggart, & Mayor Lyon Absent: Stern and Ferraro Also present were City Manager Les Evans; Assistant City Manager Carolynn Petru, Public Works Director Dean Allison, Director of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement Joel Rojas, Recreation & Parks Director Ron Rosenfeld; Finance Director Dennis McLean; and, Administrative Services Director/ City Clerk Jo Purcell. After opening remarks by Mayor Lyon, self - introductions followed by all attendees. City Storm Drains City Manager Les Evans introduced the subject of maintenance of the City's infrastructure and in particular the repair of the City roadways which, as the result of the City's maintenance schedule, were now deemed to be in excellent condition. The City's aging storm drain system was now determined to be the next major item of concern and expense. Public Works Director Allison then summarized the findings of the study that had been conducted to determine the overall condition of the City's storm drain system. The study revealed that the area with the highest concentration of critical conditions existing was along Palos Verdes Drive East. Repair of that area was estimated to cost $10 million. Several other areas of the City were also in need of repair and replacement. Altogether, it was estimated that over the next ten years approximately $ 15 million of expenditures would have to be made to bring the City's storm drain system up to good condition. Director Allison then proceed to present a "Power Point" display of pictures which depicted storm drains in various stages of deterioration. Upon completion of the presentation, City Manager Evans and Director Allison then fielded questions about the timeline for repair of the system; the ongoing maintenance cost for the system upon the completion of the repairs; and, the sources of revenue for the repair and maintenance. Mayor Lyon urged those in attendance to attend the upcoming budget workshops scheduled for April 21, May 3, and May 29.
