A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO PALOS VERDES TO CONSERVE, PROTECT, AND
ENHANCE THE NATURAL RESOURCES, BEAUTY, AND OPEN
SPACE OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES FOR THE BENEFIT AND
ENJOYMENT OF ITS RESIDENTS AND THE RESIDENTS OF
THE REGION*
WHEREAS, the Palos Verdes Peninsula has long been recognized
as one of the most beautiful and scenic areas of the entire
Southern California Coast* F and
WHEREAS, its natural beauty and scenic attractions have
served to attract over the years the thousands of residents of who
enjoy the unique quality of life here offered; and
WHEREAS, open space offers preservation of views and vistas,
hiking, horseback riding, and other recreational opportunities to
residents of and visitors to Rancho Palos Verdes, and the Palos
Verdes Peninsula, and
WHEREAS, some open space areas are habitat for a variety of
native wildlife and plant species; and
WHEREAS, this priceless heritage is to a large extent
dependent upon the preservation of open space; and
WHEREAS, the preservation of the open space remaining is
critical to the present and future enjoyment of the beauty-of this
unique area; and
WHEREAS, this resolution is consistent with the goals,
policies and objectives of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes General
Plan.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS
VERDES DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS*
BE IT RESOLVED THAT
It is the goal of the City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes to
conserve, protect, and enhance its natural resources, beauty and
open space for the benefit and enjoyment of its residents and the
residents of the entire region.
It is the goal of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes to provide
for land uses which will be ' sensitive to and enhance the
environment and character of the community, provide for open
space, supply appropriate facilities to serve residents and
visitors and protect the general health, safety and welfare of the
community.
IN ADDITION, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED THAT:
It shall be a policy consideration that future development
shall recognize the importance of open space in enhancing the
quality of life.
It shall recognize that there is the need to encourage a
framework of interaction among the four cities on the Peninsula
and between the Peninsula and its surrounding communities to
provide for open space.
The City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes hereby
reaffirms the importance of the natural environment and open space
remaining on the Palos Verdes Peninsula and its positive effect on
the health and welfare of this most unique area.
The City Council of Rancho Palos Verdes urges its neighboring
cities to recognize the importance of open space as a priceless
heritage for the entire Palos Verdes Peninsula to be passed on to
future generations.
PASSED, APPROVED and ADOPTED on June 6, 1989.
