A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES URGING THAT THE
UNITED STATES COAST GUARD UTILIZE THE NAVY'S
SAN PEDRO AREA HOUSING FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the Long Beach Naval Station and Shipyard is being closed as part
of the Defense Base Closure and Realignment Acts; and
WHEREAS, the John Montgomery and Palos Verdes Navy housing facilities in
San Pedro will be vacated as a result of the base closing; and
WHEREAS, the United States Coast Guard is in need of local housing facilities
for its personnel and has decided to use the Tustin Marine Base housing facility; and
WHEREAS, the City of Tustin and other governmental agencies have prepared a
comprehensive reuse plan for the Tustin Marine Base which includes a 4,600 unit
master - planned community and is strongly supported by the neighboring public; and
WHEREAS, if the Coast Guard is permitted to proceed with their plan to move in
the existing housing at Tustin, an excellent reuse plan will be wasted;
NOW , THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND
ORDER AS FOLLOWS:
That the City Council supports the efforts of the City of Los Angeles (San Pedro)
in encouraging the United States Coast Guard to use the vacant Navy housing facilities
in San Pedro including the John Montgomery and Palos Verdes Navy housing sites.
