CC RES 1997-073RESOLUTION NO. 97 - 73 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES ACKNOWLEDGING THE POTENTIAL FOR ADVERSE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACTS AS A RESULT OF THE PROPOSED LAX EXPANSION AND SUPPORTING THE SOUTH BAY CITIES COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS ON THE AIRPORT EXPANSION WHEREAS, the City of L.A. is proposing a major expansion of LAX that would increase the airport use from 58 million to 93 million passengers a year and its air cargo shipments from 1.7 million tons to 4.2 million tons a year. WHEREAS, because the nature of the expansion, the proposed LAX expansion may create adverse environmental impacts on South Bay communities, including but not limited to impacts on noise, traffic, air quality, and safety. WHEREAS, as lead agency for the LAX expansion project, the City of L.A. is currently beginning the State and Federally mandated environmental review process, beginning with a series of public scoping meetings in which individuals and public agencies have an opportunity to inform the lead agency what issues should be addressed in the forthcoming EIR. WHEREAS, even if the City of Rancho Palos Verdes may be directly impacted by the proposed expansion that is concerned about negative impacts that may result to the South Bay region as a whole. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE, AND ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS: Section 1. That the City acknowledges the potential for adverse environmental impacts to the City as a result of the airport expansion and thus pledges to closely monitor and participate in the forthcoming environmental review process.
