RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
RANCHO PALOS VERDES DECLARING EVERY DAY
DURING THE MONTH OF MAY, 1998 AS ARBOR DAY
WHEREAS, each year, Arbor Day is celebrated by people throughout California
and the Nation in recognition of the important role trees play in our lives; and
WHEREAS, trees cool our cities, fight pollution, conserve energy, provide
habitat for wildlife, and enhance our neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, in 1949, California established Arbor Day in honor of horticulturist
Luther Burbank; and
WHEREAS, trees help to ensure the City's ecological, economic and social
sustainability ; and
WHEREAS, Arbor Day promotes tree appreciation and conservation, tree
planting, education and tree care; and
WHEREAS, the City has made a significant investment in the care and
maintenance of Rancho Palos Verdes' urban forest; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes has distinction of offering its
citizens views of ocean, harbor, City and open space unrivaled in the world; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes has recognized the value of the
thousands of trees within the City limits and the view enhancement opportunities they
offer when carefully planted and nurtured; and
WHEREAS, the City has consistently supported the insightful and sensible
planting and maintenance of its street and park trees; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works maintains the City's urban forest
and will be instrumental in gaining recognition as a Tree City USA by the National
Arbor Day Foundation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, the City of Rancho Palos
Verdes, does hereby recognize every day during the month of May 1998, as ARBOR
DAY and will continue to promote tree planting, which enhances the quality of life in our
community.
PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED THIS 19th day of May 1998.
