CC RES 2005-017RESOLUTION NO. 2005 -17 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES, SUPPORTING ASSEMBLY BILL 208 (GORDON) EDUCATIONAL PREFERENCE FOR THE CHILDREN OF MILITARY PERSONNEL. WHEREAS, there are over 227,000 Active Duty and Reserve Military personnel stationed at California's 62 military bases; and WHEREAS, over one -third of these military personnel are parents to approximately 131,000 school -aged children; and WHEREAS, being transferred to a military installation within California, the children of military personnel frequently experience difficulties in gaining admission into high quality school districts; and WHEREAS, in the case that a student does not reside in the school district of their choice, they are required to request admission through an often lengthy and burdensome permit process; and WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 208 will require school districts to give preference to the children of military personnel in the process of an interdistrict transfer. BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES: That the passage of Assembly Bill 208 (Gordon) will strengthen the competitiveness of California's military installations by eliminating a barrier to a quality education for the children of military personnel and this Council urges the unanimous support of the legislature and the Governor to insure this bill becomes law.
