CC MINS 20050827 ADJ Founders Park DedicationMINUTES RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING FOUNDERS PARK DEDICATION AUGUST 27, 2005 Mayor Clark called the meeting to order at 1:48 P.M. at Ocean Trails Park, adjacent to Trump National Golf Course, One Ocean Trails Drive, Rancho Palos Verdes, notice having been given with affidavit thereto on file. ROLL CALL: Present: Gardiner, Long, Stern, Wolowicz and Mayor Clark Absent: None Also present was Assistant City Manager /City Clerk Carolynn Petru, Former Mayor Ken Dyda, Former Mayor Ann Shaw, Betty Field Strauss and Barbara Gleghorn. APPROVAL OF AGENDA: The agenda approved by acclamation. FLAG SALUTE: The presentation of the flag and the pledge of allegiance were provided by Boy Scout Troop 213. The National Anthem was performed by Stephanie Burkett. CEREMONIAL: Mayor's Welcome Mayor Clark welcomed those assembled to the park dedication event and introduced many distinguished members of the audience. Recognition of City Founders After introductory remarks by Mayor Clark, the following City Founders addressed the audience about the long fight for incorporation of the fourth city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula: Barbara Gleghorn, Director of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Advisory Council and member of the Save Our Coastline (SOC) Steering Committee Ken Dyda, Former Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor; Member of the First City Council, Director of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Advisory Council, 4th City Campaign Committee Co -Chair and. current President of Peninsula Seniors Betty Field Strauss, Member of Saie Our Coastline (SOC') Ann Shaw, Former Rancho Palos Verdes Mayor and Chair of the First Planning Commission REGULAR BUSINESS: Renaming of Ocean Trails Park (1411) Mayor Clark moved, seconded by Mayor Pro Tem Wolowicz to officially change the name of Ocean Trails Park to Founders Park. The motion passed on the following roll call vote: AYES: Gardiner, Long, Stern; Wolowicz, Mayor Clark NOES: None Mayor Clark unveiled the mockup of the dedication plaque, indicated the poll with streamers attached to it that marked the location in the park where the plaque would be installed and read the wording for the plaque to the audience. CEREMONIAL: Recognition of the Ishibashi Family Mayor Clark shared with the audience that Trump National Golf Course was the original location of the Ishibashi family farm and indicated that the Rancho del los Palos Verdes Historical Society had created a beautiful plaque commemorating this fact and acknowledging the Ishibashi family's many contributions to the early development of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Jenna Watanabe, representing the Ishibashi Family, thanked the Rancho del los Palos Verdes Historical Society for providing the plaque, Trump National Golf Course for building the pedestal and the City of Rancho Palos Verdes for allowing it to be placed in such a beautiful public park for everyone to see and enjoy. City Council Minutes Founders Park Dedication August 27, 2005 Page 2of3 ADJOURNMENT: Mayor Clark thanked everyone for attending and invited the audience to join the Council in a cake cutting ceremony and champagne toast to the new park immediately following the close of the City Council meeting. . Councilman Stern moved, seconded by Councilman Long to adjourn the meeting to Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. at Fred Hesse Community Park, 29301 Hawthorne Boulevard. Mayor Clark declared the meeting adjourned at 3:10 P.M.
