(15 mins) 11. Sheriff Issued Picture Identifications and City Council Badges (Stern)
Recommendation: 1) The City Council should adopt a policy eliminating the City
Council badges; 2) When identification of Council Members is appropriate, the
Sheriff issued photo identification, which actually shows the person claiming to
be a Council Member should be sufficient for legitimate identification purposes,
3) Unfortunately, past Council Members have "lost" badges so there are badges
out in the public held by persons who are not actually Council Members, and
hence the badge does not actually prove the identity of the holder as a present
Council Member; and, 4) If City Council Members believe that it is desirable to
have a medallion of some sort, I suggest that the City have a medallion designed
like our City logo; however, it should not be made to look like a law enforcement
officer's badge of any sort.
