Recommendation:
1) Direct staff to incorporate payment for the performances
provided by the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band ($800) and Shakespeare by the
Sea ($1,200 plus in-kind services) into the Recreation and Parks Department’s
Special Events budget for FY11-12 and FY12-13; 2) Direct staff to incorporate a
contribution of up to $80,000 to the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School Pool
Campaign in the FY11-12 Budget using Environmental Excise Tax (EET) and/or
Quimby funds, subject to the PVPHS Pool Campaign reaching its fundraising
goal of $2.1 million, the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District
proceeding with replacing the existing pool rather than only renovating it and the
City entering into a joint use agreement with the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified
School District to allow the City to provide recreational programming at the new
pool, either on a contract basis or using City resources; 3) Deny the Peninsula
Education Foundation’s request for a $55,000 grant to support the annual
operating expenses of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District; and,
4) Provide staff with preliminary direction on the remaining City Grant
applications for FY11-12 and FY12-13, with a maximum program expenditure of
$60,000.
