RANCHO PALOS VERDES CITY COUNCIL
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING/TEAM BUILDING SESSION
MARCH 15, 2012
The meeting was called to order at 6:41 P.M. by Mayor Misetich at Salvation Army
College for Officer Training, 30840 Hawthorne Blvd., notice having been given with
affidavit on file.
City Council roll call was answered as follows:
PRESENT: Brooks, Duhovic, Knight and Mayor Misetich
ABSENT: Campbell*
*Mayor Pro Tem Campbell arrived at 6:58 P.M.
Also present were: Carolyn Lehr, City Manager; Carolynn Petru, Deputy City Manager/
Interim Director of Recreation and Parks; Carol Lynch, City Attorney; Dennis McLean,
Director of Finance/Information Technology; Joel Rojas, Community Development
Director; Tom Odom, Director of Public Works; Ray Holland, Deputy Director of Public
Works; and, Eric Mausser, Human Resources Manager.
Also present was facilitator Len Wood.
FLAG SALUTE:
The Flag Salute was led by Councilman Duhovic.
APPROVAL OF AGENDA:
Mayor Misetich moved, seconded by Councilman Duhovic, to approve the agenda.
Without objection, Mayor Misetich so ordered.
PUBLIC COMMENTS:
None.
REGULAR NEW BUSINESS:
Assessing City Council Effectiveness
Len Wood provided the results and PowerPoint presentation regarding the City Council
Effectiveness Questionnaire taken by the Council Members the previous evening.
Council discussion ensued on the following topics in the analysis: Conflict
Management; Teamwork; Understanding of Roles; Staff Relationships; Clear Sense of
Purpose; Chairperson Leadership; Productivity and Advisory Board Relationships.
Council Members identified Council strengths, possible blockages, and suggestions for
improvement.
RECESS AND RECONVENE:
Mayor Misetich called a brief recess from 9:09 P.M. to 9:20 P.M.
Fine Tuning the Council-Manager Team
Mr. Wood directed the discussion to the topic of Fine Tuning the Council-Manager
Team.
Discussion ensued among Council Members, Mr. Wood, and staff regarding issues
relating to the successful functioning of the Council-Manager team such as agenda
preparation, public information requests, and meeting protocols.
Mr. Wood summarized the evening's discussion points and thanked the Council
Members and staff for their participation in the Team Building Session.
ADJOURNMENT:
At 10:12 P.M., Mayor Misetich adjourned the meeting.
