CC RES 2008-113 RESOLUTION NO. 2008-113
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS
VERDES, DECLARING THE CITY'S SUPPORT FOR AN ENERGY PARTNERSHIP
BETWEEN THE SOUTH BAY CITIES COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS AND
SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON.
WHEREAS, the City Council supports "energy efficiency" initiatives, policies, and
construction standards in order to ensure that as one of the cities of the South Bay
Cities Council of Governments, it follows and encourages sustainable policies and
practices; and
WHEREAS, local demand for electricity has grown substantially, and it is
expected that demand for electricity will continue to grow in the near future to support a
growing population; and
WHEREAS energy efficient programs enhance our environment by improving air
quality, reducing pollution, and conserving natural resources; and
WHEREAS, there is movement within California communities and businesses to
improve everyday practices to create more sustainable and "greener" cities; and
WHEREAS, the City, working with and through the South Bay Cities Council of
Governments, seeks to promote innovative methods and state-of-the-art technologies
used in the design and construction of new residential buildings within the City, in order
to bring our energy and natural resource consumption in line with our sustainability
goals; and
WHEREAS, the City, working with the South Bay Cities Council of Governments,
through the operation of its Environmental Services Center, will utilize the Southern
California Edison Local Government Partnership Program to advance the City's
customer service goals.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS
VERDES DOES HEREBY FIND, DETERMINE AND RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: That the above recitations are true and correct:
Section 2: That the City of Rancho Palos Verdes supports a commitment to
sustainable practices through energy efficiency, and will work with the South Bay Cities
Council of governments to provide leadership and guidance in promoting, facilitating,
and instituting such practices in the community:
Section 3: That the City of Rancho Palos Verdes supports and endorses the
Local Government Partnership that the South Bay Cities Council of Governments has
entered into on their behalf as an effective method to help meet long-term community
economic and environmental goals.
