CC RES 2008-068 RESOLUTION NO. 2008-68
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES,
AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 2007-47, THE BUDGET APPROPRIATION FOR FISCAL
YEAR 2008-09, FOR A BUDGET ADJUSTMENT IN THE AMOUNT OF $9,000 FROM THE
GENERAL FUND FOR THE DEDICATION OF MARILYN RYAN SUNSET POINT PARK.
WHEREAS, the City's first Mayor, Marilyn Ryan, passed away on June 22, 2008. She
was a co-founder of Save Our Coastline (SOC), which battled the County over high density
development and later spearheaded the drive for incorporation. She was elected to the first City
Council in September 1973 when she received the highest number of votes out of a field of
twenty-four candidates. She served as the City's Mayor until March 1976 and was re-elected
for a second term that same year. She resigned from the City Council in 1977 when she was
elected to the 51st State Assembly District, where she served until 1982. Later, she was
appointed as president of the California Arts Council; and,
WHEREAS, on July 15, 2008, the City Council approved re-naming Sunset Point Park to
"Marilyn Ryan Sunset Point Park" and expressed a desire to install an memorial plaque to
commemorate Marilyn Ryan's contributions to the community and host a dedication ceremony
with catered refreshments.
BE IT, THEREFORE, RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO
PALOS VERDES:
Section 1: The following increase is made to the fiscal year 2008-2009 General Fund
budget:
