AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES MAKING
MISCELLANEOUS REVISIONS TO THE TEXT OF THE DEVELOPMENT
CODE, AS CODE-AMENDMENT NO. 14 AND AMENDING THE RANCHO
PALOS VERDES MUNICIPAL CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES DOES ORDAIN. AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1: 17.40.020 of the Rancho .Palos Verdes Municipal Code is amended to
• read:
No lot shall be created with,. nor shall any lot be reduced to result in., an
area or dimension less than the minimum lot area and dimensions required
in the •respective _zoning district. Existing lots which have an area or
dimension less than the minimum area required shall not be reduced in area
or the respective _dimension_.• Lot width shall be the distance from side
property line to side property line, measured at a point midway .between the
front and rear property lines,- .parallel to the front property line or to a
tangent at the midpoint of a• curved front property line.
Lot depth shall. be the distance from the midpoint of the front property line
to the midpoint of the rear property line.
For lots with a curved front property line and/or no rear property line, lot
depth shall be the distance from the front property line (measured at the
midpoint, perpendicular to a tangent at the midpoint) to a line within the
lot (which is ten (10) feet or greater and is parallel to the tangent.)
Section 2: 17-.40.030.A.1. of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code is amended
to read:
For interior lots, the front property line shall be that property line abutting
the primary public or private street••of access. For corner lots, the front
property line shall be the shorter property line abutting the primary_public or
private street of access. For flag lots, the .front property line shall be- that
property line which most nearly parallels the public or private street of access
which abuts the •pole, not including the pole;
Section 3: 17.62.020 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code is amended to
read: -
The Director• of Planning. may grant minor• exception permits authorizing up to a
twenty. percent reduction in setback and open space requirements; and a twenty
percent reduction. or measurement of ten feet, whichever is less, for each lot
dimension measurement, upon the finding that such reduction is consistent with
the intents of this chapter, and the construction of fences exceeding forty-two
inches in height within the required front or street-side setback areas, or walls
or- hedges exceeding six. (6) feet in height at any other location, and other
special case. fences pursuant to Chapter 17.42. In the Coastal Specific Plan
District any minor exception permit shall be in conformity with the policies and
requirements of the Coastal Specific Plan.
Section 4: 17.68.060:C..of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code is amended to read:
C. Any nonconforming structure which does not require a building permit and
which •has deteriorated or is damaged may be restored to original condition
provided that such- restoration does not pose a significant safety hazard, as
determined by the Director, and that if the restoration is necessary due to
damage, that restoration must start within one (1) year from the date the •
damage occurred.. The Planning Director shall be notified prior to the
restoration/replacement of any nonconforming structure.
Section 5: 17.68.060.D.of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code is amended
to read:
D. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to signs (see Chapter 17.52) .
Section 6: 17.68.060 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code is amended by
adding E. :
E. Single-family residences in single-family residential districts may be
restored to original condition and may be expanded to conform to the setback
standards in effect as of December 1, 1975. (Ord. 75-78(part) , 1975) .
Section 7: 16.04. of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code under definitions
is amended by adding 385 to read:
"Downslope" means a lot that slopes downward from the main street of access.
Section 8: 16.04. of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code under definitions
is amended by adding 1265. to read:
"Upslope lot" means a lot that slopes upward from the main street of access.
