3. If there must be development, my family would first support additional Emergency Services
facilities. As long as we still have a dog park and access to the trails. By placing Emergency
Services in this location, the first responders will have faster access to major streets and
improved response time. Also it keeps the property from becoming another tourists attraction.
Second we would support one or more multi use sports fields. Sports Fields that would service
local AYSO/Lacrosse/Softball (the sports that typically struggle to schedule field time). Sports
Fields maintain the open space and views on the property. The City should contact the youth
sport groups directly to ensure that these improvements would be utilized consistently. Perhaps
even a pool for residents only. Let me emphasize, for residents only! Additionally, keeping the
Dog Park is also important and should be considered in any current/future plans. There are no
other dog parks close to RPV to legally let our dogs off leash.
4. Must there be development? What is wrong with keeping the property for city government
use? Where will RPV City Hall move to?What will it coast to move? Where will we recycle
hazardous waste? How will additional traffic congestion be handled? Please consider
refurbishing the City Hall Buildings for city government purposes. If development is mandated
then keep it simple and keep it open, perhaps improving/expanding the Tennis courts, Dog
Park, and adding a multi use sports field. These facilities would require a a small but necessary
public restroom/changing room.
We strongly oppose any development that includes general public use, picnic tables, benches,
shade, parking and public restrooms. These facilities will only cause the area to be overrun by
non-RPV-residents, therefore destroying the natural beauty of the area. This is exactly what
happened to Abalone Cove! Once the parking was expanded and overflow parking was
allowed, more tables, and a restroom were added, the cove has been overrun by people from
far and wide in the LA area. Now the only items to discover in the tide pools are trash and dirty
diapers. My family used to go down there, but now it is just too depressing to see how badly the
coast line has been mistreated. There literally is little to no sea life left in the tide pools.
5. The City can better serve its residents by not adding new developments to our city that
draws crowds of people from on or off the peninsula. "Build it and they will come!" is not just
cliche'. The most wonderful part of living in RPV is open space and my family considers the city
hall property as a part of the city's open space. We use the Dog Park, access the trails below
city hail and enjoy walking around the old missile bunkers. We see people using the overflow
parking to fly their drones and this is a good place for them to fly, away from homes, schools
and parks. Why is Open Space not a consideration the Survey?
