ORD 476 ORDINANCE NO. 476
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES
PROHIBITING RECKLESS USE OF TRAILS WITHIN THE PALOS
VERDES NATURE PRESERVE AND AMENDING THE RANCHO
PALOS VERDES MUNICIPAL CODE.
WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, along with the Palos Verdes
Land Conservancy, has expended significant sums to purchase land to place within
the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve ("the Preserve") to preserve open space areas
for threatened and endangered species and for the recreational use and enjoyment
of the general public; and
WHEREAS, trails within the Preserve have been established, some of which
are to be used jointly by pedestrians, equestrians and bicyclists and others of
which have been designated for particular types of users; and
WHEREAS, the City of Rancho Palos Verdes wants all users of trails within
the Preserve to do so in a safe manner, so as not to endanger others, so that the
trails can continue to be used and enjoyed by many different people;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO
PALOS VERDES DOES HEREBY ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. Chapter 16 of Title 12 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal
Code is hereby amended by adding new Section 12.130 thereto to read as follows:
12.16.130 Reckless Use of Trails Within the Palos Verdes Nature
Preserve Prohibited.
It shall constitute a public nuisance for any person, including pedestrians,
equestrians and bicyclists, to use any trail within the Palos Verdes Nature Preserve
("the Preserve") in a reckless manner that demonstrates a wanton disregard for the
safety of other human beings or animals or causes injury or harm to others.
