AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES
AMENDING THE BUILDING CODE TO REQUIRE INTERIOR
ACCESS TO A RESIDENTIAL ADDITION CHANGING
REFERENCE FROM "COUNTY" TO "CITY", DELETING
CHAPTER 69 OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY BUILDING CODE
AND AMENDING THE RANCHO PALOS VERDES MUNICIPAL
CODE
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Rancho Palos Verdes
does ordain as follows:
Section 1: Chapter 15.04 of Title 15 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Muni-
cipal Code is amended by amending Sections 15.04.020B, and 15.04.020E and
by adding Sections 15.04.150 and 15.04.160 to read:
15.04.020.B. "Building department" means the building and safety
division of the department of environmental services of the City.
15.04.020.E. "County engineer" means the building official of the
City.
15.04.150. Section 3303 amended -- interior access. Notwith-
standing the provision of 15.04.010, the building code is amended by
adding Subsection (f) to Section 3303 to read:
(f) INTERIOR ACCESS. Interior access is required
to any addition or remodel that adds at least 70
square feet of space to a dwelling unit.
15.04.160. Chapter 69 repealed. Notwithstanding the provisions
of Section 15.04.010, the building code is amended by deleting Chap-
ter 69 therefrom.
Section 2: Chapter 15.08 of Title 15 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Muni-
cipal code is amended by amending Section 15.08.020A to read:
15.08.020.A. "Chief electrical inspector" means the building
official except in Section 80-4 of the electrical code.
Section 3: Chapter 15.12 of Title 15 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Muni-
11/ cipal Code is amended by amending Section 15.12.020.A to read:
15.12.020.A. "Administrative authority", "Chief plumbing inspec-
tor" or "Plumbing inspector" means the building official of the City
except in Section 4 thereof.
Section 4: Chapter 15.16 of Title 15 of the Rancho Palos Verdes Muni-
cipal Code is amended by amending Sections 15.16.020.B. and 15.16.020.D. to
read:

15.16.020.B. "Building department" means the building and safety
division of the department of environmental services of the City.
15.16.020.D. "Building official" means the building official of
the City.
Section 5: The City of Rancho Palos Verdes is located on the Palos
Verdes Peninsula. The terrain is hilly, heavy with natural vegetation and
there is danger of flash fires during the periods of Santa Ana winds. This
Ordinance ensures that in case of fire there will be maximum ingress and
egress for all habitable rooms and is therefore necessary because of topo-
graphical, climatic and geographical conditions.
