AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES REPEAL-
ING ORDINANCE NO. 129 AND RESTRICTING THE USE OF CER-
TAIN STREETS AND AMENDING THE RANCHO PALOS VERDES
MUNICIPAL CODE
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RANCHO PALOS VERDES DOES ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The Rancho Palos Verdes Municipal Code is hereby
amended by adding a new Chapter 3 to Article VII to read:
Chapter 3. Restricted Use of Certain Streets
7301 Designated Truck Routes
The following streets within the City are designated as streets
which may be used by vehicles which are then in use for commercial purposes and
which exceed a maximum gross weight of 6,000 pounds:
(a) Palos Verdes Drive West from Hawthorne Boulevard to Palos
Verdes Drive South.
(b) Palos Verdes Drive South from Palos Verdes Drive West to
Twenty-fifth Street
(c) Twenty-fifth Street from Palos Verdes Drive West to the
City boundary with the City of Los Angeles.
(d) Hawthorne Boulevard from Palos Verdes Drive West to the
City's northernmost boundary with the City of Rolling
Hills Estates.
7302 Prohibition of Use of Certain Streets
Except as otherwise provided in Section 7304 hereof, no person
shall drive a vehicle which is then in use for commercial purposes and which ex-
ceeds a maximum gross vehicle weight of 6,000 pounds on any street within the
City other than those listed in Section 7301.
7303 Posting of Streets with Appropriate Signs
Under the authority of Vehicle Code Section 35701 (b) the City
Council determines that the posting of signs indicating the streets upon which
certain vehicles exceeding 6,000 pounds are prohibited will best serve to give
notice of these provisions. Section 7301 is effective only when appropriate signs
are erected.
7304 Exceptions
Notwithstanding any other provision of this Chapter, nothing here-
in shall be deemed to apply to:
(1) Any commercial vehicle subject to Sections 1031 to 1036, in-
clusive, of the Public Utilities Code;
(2) Any commercial vehicles coming from an unrestricted street
having ingress and egress by direct route to and from a restricted street when
necessary for the purpose of making pickups or deliveries of goods, wares, and
merchandise from or to any building or structure located on the restricted street
or for the purpose of delivering materials to be used in the actual and bona fide
repair, alteration remodeling, or construction of any building or structure upon
the restricted street for which a building permit has previously been obtained.
(3) Any vehicle owned by a public utility or a licensed contractor
while necessarily in use in the construction, installation or repair of any public
utility.
7305 Penalty.
Any person, firm or corporation violating any of the pro-
visions of this Chapter shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and each such
person shall be deemed guilty of a separate offense for each violation of any
of the provisions of this Chapter. Upon conviction of any such violation such
person shall be punishable by a fine of not more than $500, or by imprisonment
for not more than six months, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
Section 2. Repeal of Ordinance No. 129
Ordinance Number 129 adopted on March 18, 1980, is hereby
declared repealed on the date that Ordinance 137 takes effect.
